Happy New Year.
The closing lines of The Great Gatsby handwritten by F. Scott Fitzgerald under a portrait of him drawn by Robert Kastor.
Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that’s no matter — tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther…. And one fine morning —
So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.

<Annie Hall, 1977>
And l thought of that old joke.
This guy goes to a psychiatrist
and says,
“Doc, my brother’s crazy. He thinks he’s a chicken.”
The doctor says,
“Why don’t you turn him in?”
The guy says,
“l would, but l need the eggs.”
Well, l guess that’s, now, how l feel about relationships.
They’re totally irrational, crazy and absurd.
But l guess we keep going through it…because most of us need the eggs.
Gossip is natures’ telephone…
I stay away from the telephone if at all possible.
